                                            PROVIDENCE MEDICAL CENTERS ROSE SHOWS

Providence Medical Centers, St Vincent and Newberg host employee Rose Clubs. Both organizations enjoy support from Tualatin Valley Rose society in the form of  seminars and discussion groups presented by TVRS Consulting Rosarians and Judges for their annual Rose Shows. All Providence employees are eligible to submit entries to these shows.

At St. Vincent Judges arrange the entries by type and color class, then award 1st 2nd and 3rd place and Honorable mention ribbons according to American Rose Society Guidelines for Judging Roses. The Best of Show and 3 Special Merit entries receive Rosette ribbons. The winner of Best of Show has their name engraved on a perpetual trophy.
This year a section for rose arrangements was added to the program.

This year's best of Show awards went to Patti Cecchi's Gift Of Life and and to an Arrangement by Kim Morris. Special Merit Awards went to Patti for her Fire Fighter and to Pat Mclean for her Fully Open Fragrant Cloud. Pictured above are Patti and Kim with their roses and the team of judges from Tualatin Valley Rose Society. A picture of Kim and her arrangement were not available. The Modern "Bed of Roses" arrangment was entered by Gretchen Bidstrup as non-competing to stimulate interest.

From the Office of Volunteer Services

The Shows original purpose was to create community.  Over time the Rose Sale Fund raiser was added to benefit the Volunteers Pledge.  We added the Rose Arrangement competition to bring yet another element of beauty and community.   We believe this to be a wonderful tie in with our Providence mission.  This competition is open all St. Vincent Hospital and campus staff and we hope everyone is encouraged to participate and come cheer your coworkers as well.

In addition, we noticed that that there were so very many people that come into the hospital.  People come here for a variety of reasons, ailments and support for patients. As we worked the show we realized just what it means to someone who is under stress.  We heard people over and over say how nice it was to see a bit of beauty in their otherwise and sometimes sad experience of having to come into the hospital.  “How unexpected” they said; “How nice it made them feel!”  “What a sight!”  So many people took flower names down and others recognized co-workers names on the entries.  Many conversation and smiles started over the simple beauty of the flowers.

Because of these comments from patients, families and staff we extended the show to a two day viewing in order to touch more people.  We hope that you understand that the beauty of the rose or arrangement that you contribute will be enjoyed by as many people as we can possibly reach it those two days.   Know that your rose will be given to the event to serve this amazing sight.  With any remaining roses, we make arrangements and decorate they hospital.

Thank you to everyone who help make this event beautiful.

Newberg's show is unique in that the Judges select a Best of Show and 4 Runners up. The Judges' Choice Best of Show is not announced until the Peoples' Choice has been selected from all of the blue ribbon winners by popular vote of the viewers. This year the Peoples' Choice was one of the Runners up.

Providence Newberg Medical Centeremployees host annual rose show
When patients and visitors entered Providence Newberg Medical Center recedntly (in June), something sweet was in the air. Every Junethe hospital's employee activities committee hosts an annual employee rose show. With dozens of entries and lots of varieties, employees displayed some beautiful roses that always bring a smile to the faces of many. As with tradition the past eight years, judges from Tualatin Valley Rose Society put their knowledge to work and selected winners for first, second and third place (also honorable mention) and Judges' Choice Best of Show.
